Wave 3 Coffee - coupon code inside!

I type to you this morning as I sit here with my cup of Joe.

This week I had the pleasure of receiving a bag of this new Wave 3 coffee

This coffee is touted as being an artisinal coffee that is roasted in small batches, is organic, and is fair trade. This coffee is supposed to give you a smooth wave of energy rather than a short burst. Although you typically won't see me do this, I'm going to copy and paste the benefits the company has listed on their Amazon page in regards to this coffee:

Top 7 Health Benefits of WAVE3 Coffee...
According to Wikipedia, The Third Wave of Coffee refers to a current movement to produce high-quality coffee, where coffee is an artisanal foodstuff, like wine, rather than a commodity. Wave3 takes this concept even further by sourcing not only the best tasting coffee beans, but the most nutritionally superior as well.
WAVE3 contains essential nutrients including Riboflavin, Pantothenic Acid, Manganese, Potassium, Magnesium and Niacin. These nutrients occur naturally in WAVE3, remember we're organic and nothing artificial is added.
WAVE3 improves energy levels and brain function. This includes memory, mood, vigilance, reaction times and general cognitive function. We think our customers are the smartest people in the world!
WAVE3 increases the burning of fat in your body while boosting your metabolic rate.
WAVE3 can drastically improve physical performance through increased adrenaline levels and release fatty acids from your fat tissues. Many WAVE3 fans enjoy a robust cup of WAVE3 about a half an hour before heading to the gym.
WAVE3 helps fight depression and makes you happier. No wonder WAVE3 coffee lovers are always smiling!
WAVE3 contains massive antioxidants. Drinking 3 cups daily could make WAVE3 the biggest source of Antioxidants in your diet... in the average American diet WAVE3 beats out the antioxidants of all fruits and vegetables... combined.
Even though it's arguably one of the healthiest beverages on the planet, it's the hypnotic WAVE3 aroma, the WAVE3 taste, and the WAVE3 experience that keeps coffee lovers and baristas around the world coming back for more.
Like they say, "Take One Sip, Count to 3, Ride the Wave!"

When I received this coffee, of course the first thing I did was tear open the box in excitement. The smell coming from the box was different than the smell of any other coffee bean I had caught a whiff from. And to be honest, at first I wasn't sure about it.

I was worried because the bag looks paper, upon opening it up, I can see that it is lined, so it shouldn't affect the quality of the beans inside, and I love the simple packaging. The bag comes with a standard freshness vent that you see in most bags of coffee (you can squish the bag to smell the coffee, but it keeps air from returning into the bag for freshness). The beans are pretty oily. I had to research this because it's not something I see too often.

You will find a lot of controversy over oily beans. Some people prefer oily beans, some people say that means it's over-roasted. One thing is for certain, this is a dark roasted coffee, so you can expect some oiliness to the beans (coffee has oils, the longer it's roasted, the more can leach out of the beans and show on the surface).

These are some super dark beans!

I get some ground up with my grinder, and now it's time to brew some coffee.

So here you have it, a nice cup of Wave 3 coffee, it almost looks like a black satin.

So, what do I think about it? Well, I'm not the person to ask about the caffeine coming in a smooth wave instead of a burst. I'm totally impervious to caffeine, comes from years of drinking coffee and soda, I can literally drink a pot of coffee before bed and fall asleep like a baby. So I can't judge it on that. I can judge it on flavor. I noticed that this coffee is not nearly as bitter as other coffees in our pantry. So I definitely enjoyed that. The coffee has a nice full mouth feel, I don't know how else to explain it. The flavors are very complex, and very nice. It plays well with chocolate (no seriously, the first day I sat down and ate a bunch of chocolates with it). The coffee is super smooth!

At first, I thought, so it's coffee. Then yesterday we didn't have any ground up and were in a hurry and made another brand of coffee, and seriously, it was terrible! Today, we brewed some more Wave 3!

I do prefer Wave 3 coffee to the other coffees that we have on hand. However, that being said, I do have one qualm about it, it's simply the price. I do expect to pay more for organic coffee (which by the way is sustainably grown), and being fair trade is going to add a little more to the price as well. I love that the coffee is roasted in America, and I love that it's freshly roasted (which is probably why the beans were so oily, the beans hadn't sat long enough for the oils to soak back into the beans). But I don't have $25 to lay down on coffee every week. I'm not saying it's not worth it, just that it is a bit pricey. So this will not be a coffee that we can drink every day, but if I have extra cash laying around I may buy some more.

I've got good news for you guys though! You can get this coffee for 50% off on Amazon using the coupon code WAVE3SAV

After you have tried some, come back and tell me what you think!

'Til next time,

-Sue
